Please be advised that due to the cancellation of buses, the BLAST OFF FOR THE READ A THON at Ferris Glen is postponed until tomorrow, March 4 at 10:15.

When the parents and teachers of Ferris Glen Public School were looking to raise funds for the playground, they wanted to find a way to involve the students in a positive learning experience as well. On Monday March 3 at 10:15, the school will launch its first ever Read–A–Thon.

“We wanted to combine our school literacy focus into something positive, where all our students benefit”, states G. Lynch, Principal.

Students have been given pledge sheets and will be seeking sponsors from family and friends. All money raised will be allocated to enhance the school’s existing playground. The For the Kids Committee has promised to raise $10,000 over the next three years to purchase new equipment for the playground as well as enhance the present equipment.

Every student participating in the Read-A-Thon will receive a certificate and there will be prizes for the student who reads the most books in each grade.

At 10:15a.m. Monday, March 3, all students and staff in the school will join together in the gymnasium with their books. They will read together for 15 minutes to launch the Read-A-Thon.

Parents and members of the community are invited to come and read with the students to encourage their participation.

The Read-A-Thon will wrap up on March 18, 2008.
