As of 6:41 PM EST Sunday Environment Canada issued the following Freezing rain warning for the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa area.

..Freezing rain ending this evening..

This is a warning that an extended period of freezing rain is imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A large scale winter storm - currently over Lake Michigan - will track northeast through northern Lake Huron this evening and across central Ontario overnight bringing a mixed bag of wintery precipitation.

For regions from Sault Ste Marie to Chapleau to Timmins the precipitation is in the form of snow..Heavy at times with storm total accumulations of 25 centimetres possible before the snow ends early Monday evening.

For communities further southeast including Elliot Lake..Gogama and Kirkland Lake..The snow will be mixed with freezing rain this evening.

For the Nickel Belt area..The Sudbury and North Bay airports are now reporting rain..However freezing rain is still likely occurring within these regions this evening. The precipitation is expected to change to rain or snow within the next few hours.

The Ontario storm prediction centre will continue to monitor the development of this storm.

A large scale winter storm - currently over western Illinois - will track northeast towards the Great Lakes reaching northern Lake Huron tonight and is expected to bring a mixed bag of wintery precipitation.

For regions from Sault Ste Marie to Chapleau to Timmins the precipitation should be in the form of snow..Heavy at times with storm total accumulations of 25 centimetres possible before the snow ends Monday evening.

For communities further southeast including Sudbury..North Bay and Kirkland Lake..The precipitation will begin as snow..But it is likely to change to a period of freezing rain early this evening with significant ice amounts possible. The freezing rain will change over to rain after several hours.

The Ontario storm prediction centre will continue to monitor the development of this storm.
