The McGuinty government is investing $479,866 to help maintain the North Bay General Hospital and Mattawa General Hospital, while we await the opening of our two new facilities, Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing and Minister of Revenue announced today.

“Today’s announcement will help ensure that we continue to receive top quality healthcare from both the North Bay General Hospital and the Mattawa General Hospital,” Smith said. “Safe and efficient hospitals ultimately help to reduce wait times for patients and increase access to family health care.”

Today’s announcement is part of the McGuinty government’s initiative to provide funding to all Ontario hospitals for infrastructure upgrades.

Local funding is as follows:

North Bay General Hospital
$332,510

Mattawa General Hospital
$147,356

Total $479,866

“The announcement of this funding is very much appreciated as it allows us to continue to undertake priority projects to ensure safe and effective programs until such time as the new facility is completed,“ Mark Hurst, President and CEO of the North Bay General Hospital said.

“This is great news for our hospital and community,” Guy Chartrand CEO of the Mattawa General Hospital said. “We are fast approaching our move from our old facility to our new facility and these funds will not only help us with a smoother transition but allow us to maintain a high level of health care in our community.”

"Good patient care requires hospital facilities that are in proper working condition," said George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-term Care. "The investment announced today will help hospitals with needed upgrades so health care providers are able to offer quality care to Ontarians."

These initiatives are part of the McGuinty government’s plan for innovation in public health care, building a system that delivers on three priorities – keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and providing better access to doctors and nurses.
