Culinary and cultural treats from around the world will be on offer at Nipissing University Saturday, February 9, as the university hosts its fourth annual International Food Festival.

The festival runs from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Education Centre cafeteria. It features dishes prepared by 36 individuals, including Nipissing students, staff and faculty as well as community members and local restaurants including TW Foods, Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, and Evelyn's Urban Cafe and Phoenician Gourmet. A total of 25 different countries are represented. Entertainment runs the gamut from bellydancing to folk music and Japanese song. The Food Festival also features a silent auction of donated items.

The food festival is organized by Nipissing University’s International Office, the local World University Service of Canada (WUSC) committee and The North Bay Multicultural Centre. All proceeds support WUSC’s Student Refugee Sponsorship Program at Nipissing University. There are currently two refugee students attending Nipissing University who directly benefit from funds raised through the International Food Festival.

“The International Food Festival is a big hit every year and it supports a very worthwhile cause,” said Ingrid Morin-Strom, a Bachelor of Education student and one of the festival organizers. “It’s really wonderful that we can help to support our refugee students and really make a significant difference. Plus, the festival is a great time, with lots of community involvement, some interesting entertainment and some delicious food.”

Tickets for the International Food Festival cost $10 and are available at the door.
