Mattawa OPP are currently investigating the theft of a snowmachine which was stolen from a place of business located on John Street (also known as Highway 17) in the town of Mattawa, Ontario, sometime between 5:30 p.m. on January 30th, and 8:00 a.m. on January 31st, 2008.

The snowmachine is described as a 2006 Black Skidoo 550 bearing Ontario registration #957456. The snowmachine has "bumble bee" decals on either side of the cowling and has an estimated value of over $8,500.

Also on this date, police investigated the theft of insulation bags from a hardware store located on John Street in Mattawa. Approximately 18 bags of the insulation has been taken from the rear fenced area which backs onto a greenbelt adjacent to Mattawan Street.

Culprit(s) are believed to be one of the same for both incidents. Police are asking if anyone has observed a suspicious vehicle carrying building supplies in the vicinity of Mattawan Street to please call the North Bay OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or if you wish to remain anonymous contact the Near North Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
