Zellers gives Women’s Clinic a $10,000 shot in the arm

North Bay Zellers Store Manager Tony Saczawa, together with Zellers staff, handed over a $10,000 gift to the North Bay and District Hospital Foundation for a new Women’s Clinic on Monday.

Foundation Executive Director Lois Krause says thanks to generous donations from members of the community and businesses like Zellers, there will soon be a women’s outpatient clinic at the North Bay and District Hospital.

“We are very much looking forward to opening the women’s clinic because the facility will greatly enhance privacy and dignity for the female patients who visit the hospital for tests and treatment,” says Tiz Silveri, Vice President, Surgery and Maternal Child Care Centres. “This special clinic will start by treating women that were previously treated in the Operating Room shortening their treatment wait time,” Silveri added.

The clinic will specialize in the investigation and treatment of patients with abnormal Pap tests or evaluate a visual abnormality or abnormal bleeding. It will provide a colposcopy program and other diagnostic tests. The colposcopy examination uses a special lighted microscope to view the cervix. Tiny biopsies are taken of areas that appear abnormal. Colposcopy is a critical strategy in the screening of cervical cancer. Clinical trials for some of the equipment has begun.
