The executive of the Temagami Stewardship Council traveled to Toronto to attend a meeting on Monday, January 21, they hoped would help resolve their disagreement with the MNR. On Sunday Mr. Crum had traveled out of squalls in Ohio and Mr. Johnson had traveled down Hwy 11 in squalls that caused him to stop in Orillia just North of the 100-car pile that day. On Monday morning I had traveled out of squalls in Bruce County. I mention this to emphasize that 3 volunteers who receive no monetary reward at all for their efforts are passionate enough about Stewardship in Temagami to do the extra to have Community Stewardship succeed. At the same time it was unfortunate that Mr. Hando Kang, Stakeholder & Caucus Relations for the Minister of Natural Resources, was unable to attend the meeting as had been planned.

We had provided our submission electronically to the Minister's staff on the Wednesday prior to the meeting hoping that it would provide an opportunity to better understand our concerns. The Minister's staff listened to our concerns. However, Ms. Toner’s statement,” that we can’t support every little stream Stewardship”, might just have missed the whole point of the reason for our meeting. We have always understood that our community is small but that has not cause any impediment to our Stewardship being one of the most active in Ontario. We were in fact hoping that support from the Ontario Stewardship Program would be based on the quality of work already accomplished by a community Stewardship working in a true PARTNERSHIP with the MNR. Check out the quality and quantity of the Temagami Stewardship Council’s activities and our submission to the Minister at www.temagamistewardship.ca.
