A/Chief Superintendent Scott Tod - North East Regional Commander - is pleased to announce that Inspector Garry MacPherson has joined the North East Region as the Highway Safety Division Unit Commander. MacPherson replaces Inspector Mark Andrews who recently accepted the Detachment Commander post in Perth County.

As a deployed member of the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD), Inspector MacPherson is responsible for a broad-based portfolio that encompasses all facets of traffic enforcement and safety for North East Region highways, trails and waterways within OPP jurisdiction; pedestrian and cyclists traffic; urban and rural traffic issues. His efforts support the Provincial Traffic Safety Program - a proactive, sustainable approach to traffic safety directed at high-risk behaviours – impaired driving, speeding and seat belt non-compliance.

Under his command are the specialized HSD traffic teams in North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and South Porcupine; the North East Region SAVE Team; the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and Traffic Collision Investigators.

“It is a pleasure for me to return to Northern Ontario and I look forward to working with detachments and communities to make our northern roadways, trails and waterways safer places on which to travel,” states Inspector Macpherson.

Background

Inspector MacPherson has been a member of the Ontario Provincial Police for 34 years. Since 1974, MacPherson has served in Peterborough, Cobourg, Apsley, Iroquois Falls, South Porcupine, and Smith Falls just prior to transferring to his current position at North East Region Headquarters in North Bay. His experience has been varied and includes the detachment commander role in four detachments and most recently, Unit Commander Community/Municipal Policing for Eastern Region. MacPherson is a Level II Incident Commander for the Province of Ontario, trained in tactical response for major incidents.
