Alain Perron, chair of the Board of the North Bay General Hospital (NBGH) and Liz Ditullio, vice-chair of the Board of the Northeast Mental Health Centre (NEMHC) today announced a change in the chairmanship of the Joint Executive Committee (JEC) of the new North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) project.

The JEC is made up of six Board members—three from the North Bay General Hospital and three from the Northeast Mental Health Centre and is responsible for overseeing the construction of the new NBRHC.

“We are pleased to announce that Dave Youmans, member of the NEMHC Board and long time member of the JEC has accepted an interim role as Chair of the JEC,” stated Ditullio.

Mr. Youmans was appointed by members of the JEC after it received the resignation of Mr. Roger Marleau, long-time JEC chair.

“Earlier this week, Mr. Marleau tendered his resignation as chair of the JEC and thus his resignation from the NBGH Board,” noted Perron.

Both Ditullio and Perron acknowledged the countless volunteer hours Mr. Marleau has dedicated to the success of this project.

“On behalf of both hospitals and particularly the Board of the NBGH, I want to thank Roger for his leadership and the unprecedented volunteer hours he has dedicated to making this new health centre a reality,” stated Perron.

“After eight years as the Chair of the JEC, Mr. Marleau has been a strong community leader and helped move the NBRHC project to the forefront as the model for the province’s first hospital project using the new Alternate Finance and Procurement process,” added Ditullio.

Mr. Marleau held a seat on the JEC as a representative of the North Bay General Hospital and the Governance Committee of the NBGH Board appointed Mr. Murray Green, co-vice-chair and treasurer to sit on the JEC as the third NBGH representative.

Construction of the new NBRHC project began in March 2007 and is close to 20% complete. Plenary Health, the company building, financing and maintaining the new facility for 30 years recently announced a new website with webcams available to view the construction progress. The new North Bay Regional Health Centre will be completed in the summer of 2010 with occupancy scheduled for the Fall of that year.
