Mayor Victor Fedeli congratulates Glenn Cundari Thursday night after he was officialy sworn in as president.

The Board of Directors of the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce meeting kicked off the regular monthly meeting Thursday night with Mayor Fedeli officially swearing-in the 2008 Board of Directors.

The directors also heard from Bill Steer, General Manager of the Canadian Ecology Centre, as he unveiled the Centre’s community portion of the National Check for Green Consumer Education program.

The Centre says each product/service that has the Green Check symbol is an asurance that that product/service contributes, overall, to a better environment.

Steer told members that the program is along the same lines as the National Health Check Program that recognises businesses that have used due diligence with running their business while protecting the environment via the Making A Difference Environmentally (MADE) principle. He says much like the health program consumers can look for the Green Check logo when purchasing goods.

“Beatty Printing first recipients from the Canadian Ecology Centre,” he explains.

“I would like this organisation to think about what they are going to do,” Steer asked as the Chamber prepares to take an environmental step forward.

Steer also explained that the program is a seven year plan and has seven different green levels of recognition for businesses as they move towards the implementation of environmentally friendly practices.
