VALCARTIER, QC - Members of the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade-Group and the 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada are deeply saddened by the death of a fellow comrade and friend in Afghanistan: Private Jonathan Dion.

"Regardless of the circumstances, the loss of a brother in arms is always an event that affects deeply the whole Canadian Forces community. This is a painful and sensitive situation for all families, friends and colleagues of those involved in today's incident. At the present time, our efforts are mainly focused on the CF soldiers' significant others in order to give them support they deserve during this difficult period" says Colonel Eric Tremblay, 5th CMBG Commander.

"We have lost a fine Canadian today and our most sincere thoughts go out to the family and friends of this brave soldier. We also take a moment to remember our soldiers who are still deployed in Afghanistan and proudly and professionally continue to help the Afghan people on a daily basis" adds lieutenant-colonel Dany Fortin, 5e RALC Commanding Officer.
