Members of the Canadian Air Defence Sector Operations Centre at 22 Wing will be watching their screens with a great intensity this evening as they prepare to track and escort Santa Claus when he visits Canada.

As well as our locals watching out for Saint Nicolas, four CF-18 fighter pilots Capts. Dave Moar and Craig Sharp of 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alta., and Capts. Colin Marks and Yannick Jobin of 3 Wing Bagotville, Que., have been charged with the responsibility of escorting the Jolly ole soul safely as he travels through Canadian airspace delivering gifts tonight.

Children have the opportunity to watch Santa’s journey online as the pilots will be tracking the journey via special NORAD ‘SantaCams’ where they will instantly download photos and video on the NORAD Tracks Santa website, www.noradsanta.org.

Members of the 22 Wing in North Bay believe Santa will enter Canadian airspace off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Children can get updates on Santa’s journey, by calling the traditional “NORAD Tracks Santa” telephone hotline at 1-877-HI NORAD, or by emailing NORAD at [email protected].

Last year, the NORAD Tracks Santa Operations Center had 750 volunteers answer almost 65,000 phone calls and 9,600 emails from children worldwide.
