The North Bay General Hospital is asking the public not to come to the hospital if they, or anyone in their family, have the flu or any flu-like symptoms.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says there have been cases of influenza throughout the district, and hospital officials have confirmed there has been one patient with influenza in the facility.

While there are no visitor restrictions at this time, the public is asked to help protect our patients by not coming to the hospital if they, or anyone in their family, have the flu or have experienced flu-like symptoms.

This notice is particularly important for children visiting the hospital because literature has shown that children are known to be increased carriers for influenza and could present a higher risk to the patients they are visiting.

The hospital still encourages everyone to be vaccinated with the flu shot. Visitors are reminded to wash their hands with the alcohol rinse provided in each lobby before entering and leaving the facility. Influenza is easily transmitted and can greatly affect patients and the staff providing care.
