Nipissing University, in partnership with the Near North District School Board, is hosting a Mathematics competition for local Grade 9 and 10 students on Friday, December 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in room A246.

Students will be competing in teams to solve mathematical problem sets, each under a time limit. Teams will be assigned at the beginning of the contest and will endeavor to have members from each school. There are 105 students participating.

The competition is hosted by the Nipissing University Mathematics Education, Research, and Information Council (NUMERIC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. NUMERIC represents a group of educators from Nipissing’s Faculty of Arts and Science (Mathematics), Nipissing’s Faculty of Education (Mathematics), and the local community who share an interest in promoting the learning and appreciation of mathematics through a variety of sponsored events.

The competition will be marked by Nipissing University faculty of education students. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Special individual prizes will also be awarded for students who answer particularly difficult or tricky questions during the lessons
