On December 6 2007, the Nipissing University Women’s Centre will be hosting their annual memorial for the fourteen women killed in the 'Montreal Massacre' in 1989. The event will be held in the Front Foyer of Nipissing University, beginning at noon on the 6th.. At a school such as Nipissing, with such a high rate of female attendance, it is important that this vigil be observed.

The event will include music, a Power Point presentation by the Women's Centre, a candle lighting ceremony, and brief speeches by students, faculty and community leaders.

“The violence that occurred on December 6th 1989 did not reamint here. It existed long before, and has remained for far too long after. Today, almost twenty years after the murders at Ecole Polytechnique, we continue to honour and grieve these women, and all women who have suffered violence,” says Shannon Elissa, Nipissing University Women’s Centre President, noting that, “there is still change that must be made.”

This is a free event, and all are invited to attend.
