As of 9:40 AM EST Monday Environment Canada issued the following Winter storm watch for the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa area.

********************

..Winter storm conditions gradually improving during the next few hours..

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A major winter storm tracking over extreme eastern Ontario is still spreading snow northward over the regions. The snow combined with strong northwesterly winds can produce brief whiteout conditions due to blowing snow.

The main area of heavier snow is now confined to regions in close proximity to the Québec border and this area will slowly pivot eastward today. In general..Additional snowfall amounts of up to 5 centimetres are expected through today although brisk northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h will combine with freshly fallen snow to produce severely reduced visibilities at times.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the Progress of this winter storm and expects that remaining warnings will be gradually ended as conditions slowly improve over most regions today.
