Fatal MVC on Hwy 17 updated

Reports indicate that the victims of Saturday's head-on colision on Highway 17 were two well-liked Nipissing University students.

Report further indicate that Marc Caputo, 20, and Melissa Fava were pronounced dead at the scene Saturday after their east bound car collided head on with a west bound transport near Christine Lane 18 kilometres west of the North Bay on Hwy 17 at about 6pm.

The truck driver was treated and released.

On 24 Nov 2007 at approximately 1800hrs North Bay OPP responded to an MVC on Hwy 17 near Christine Lane involving a car and a transport.

Initial investigation has revealed that an east bound car and a west bound transport collided head on. The two occupants of the car, a male and a female, were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was treated and released.

Weather conditions at the time were poor. The highway was shut down for approximately six hours while OPP Technical Traffic Investigators processed the scene. The Jocko Point Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the extrication.

The names of the victims have been withheld by the family's request. The investigation is continuing.
