Nipissing University is pleased to host Dr. Dean Oliver, director of Research and Exhibitions at the Canadian War Museum, for a special lecture, titled Bloodless Wars? Military History in Museums, on November 22 at 6:30 p.m.

Oliver’s lecture is the Nipissing University History Department's Keynote Address for 2007-8.

Oliver will speak about the challenges and complexity of presenting history and historical research at public institutions. Recently, when the Canadian War Museum was at the centre of a dispute with veterans and veterans’ organizations over the description of an exhibit of a World War II strategic bombing campaign, Oliver lead the rewriting effort to address the complaints of the veterans.

Oliver is responsible for all permanent, temporary and traveling exhibits at the Canadian War Museum, where he has worked since 1998. He is the editor of Studies in Canadian Military History, and has taught defence policy, international security, and military history at York, Trent and Carleton Universities.

The lecture takes place in room H106. It is free of charge and all are welcome to attend.
