Children and youth with special needs and their families are one step closer to having a new Children’s Treatment Centre facility in the region. One Kids Place, with the assistance of Mitchell Architects, issued a tender for the construction of a new 41,000 square foot facility which will provide a home for therapists, pediatricians and Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth (NADY).

OKP Board Chair Marg Hughes states “It is the Board’s intention to secure a contractor prior to Christmas to construct the new integrated multi-service facility, which has been a dream of many parents and community partners who work with OKP”.

Paul Mitchell, Mitchell Architects, designed the new Centre to ensure appropriate assessment and treatment space, including the addition of a family resource centre, a gymnasium to support the new therapeutic recreation program, a school readiness program, early years drop in programs and a pediatrician clinic, which will house five local pediatricians.

On June 22, 2007, Nipissing MPP Monique Smith and the Honourable Mary Anne Chambers, former Minister of Children and Youth Services announced that OKP will move its North Bay operations from its interim site to construct a new state-of-the-art facility to be located at Highway 17 and McKeown Avenue in North Bay. The government of Ontario donated the 6 acre parcel of land worth $1.5 M to construct the new facility, which will support service delivery across the Region.

“I am very excited that we are moving forward with this next step in building our new Children’s Treatment Centre,” Nipissing MPP Monique Smith said. “One Kids Place plays a vital role in the continuum of care throughout our region and this new facility will ensure that our children and their families continue to receive ‘one door access’ to the high quality services they need.”
