Where will your tax dollars go? Get involved with the budget process

Since 2001 Deputy Mayor Peter Chirico has been urging the public to get involved with the council and budget process so that the city can hear ideas, questions and concerns North Bayites have about where and how tax money is spent.

This year the 2008 budget process has been revised in hopes of creating more awareness and participation.

“Looking back at other budget processes, we maybe had three people plus the regular media attend the Thursday night budget meeting,” Chirico said.

“This year the budget process will be incorporated into Monday night committee meetings… I have always said it is important to engage the public and allow transparency in all our actions.”

The new budget process will begin the first week of January with water rate discussions.
