North Bay — Nipissing University will be holding a Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m., in the university’s front foyer. The ceremony is hosted by Aboriginal Services and Programs.

Welcome remarks will be made by Dr. Dennis Mock, president of Nipissing University; Genevieve du Bruyn, president of Nipissing University Student Union; and Kyle Marsh, Interim Chair of NipissingYOU. Lorraine Liberty-Whiteduck will lead the opening prayer.

The university is proud to welcome First Nation WWII Veteran Mr. Tom Saville, Royal Canadian Engineers, Sapper, as a special guest. He is from Temagami First Nation.

Hillory Tenute, sociology student and president of the Native Studies Club, from Chippewas of Nawash, will provide a brief presentation honouring veterans and highlighting the contributions of Aboriginal veterans.

Gerald Chum, from Moose Cree First Nation, and Robin Antone, from Oneida Nations, will drum and sing the Memorial Song. They are both members of the Lighting Drum Singers.

Ashley Idle, English student, will read the Act of Remembrance.

The event is open to anyone wishing to attend.
