Lest We Forget - Canada marks Veterans Week

This is Veteran's Week across the country and there are a number of commemorative events and activities scheduled throughout the area including this Tuesday’s open house at the Veterans’ Office on Shirreff Avenue and a ceremonial puck drop at the Sky
This is Veteran's Week across the country and there are a number of commemorative events and activities scheduled throughout the area including this Tuesday’s open house at the Veterans’ Office on Shirreff Avenue and a ceremonial puck drop at the Skyhawks game at Memorial Gardens Sunday November 11th.

The open house and various events offer an opportunity for Veterans to come together with the public to share memories and develop a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and achievements of those who served Canada during war and peace times.

This year's theme is 'Lest We Forget' and the annual High School Art Contest will take place once again this year. The works that depict the theme will be on display at the Veterans' Affairs Canada office, and new this year is the elementary schools’ “Cards of Appreciation”. North Bay students were invited to right notes of thanks to the Veterans and in turn the office would give a note to the Veterans visiting the District Office with the remainder sent to serving members of the Canadian Forces.

The schedule is as follows:

1. ART CONTEST - between all North Bay High Schools

Art work is being displayed at the Veterans' Affairs Canada North Bay District office, located at the Canada Place, 107 Shirreff Avenue, Room 201, North Bay Ontario. Awards will be presented at St.Joseph's Scollard Hall, Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 9:30 a.m.

2. APPRECIATION CARDS TO VETERANS

All North Bay elementary schools invited to participate in this activity.

Cards are at the Veterans' Affairs Canada North Bay District office, located at the Canada Place, 107 Shirreff Avenue, Room 201, North Bay Ontario. The cards are given to Veterans visiting the District Office and the remainder will be sent to our Canadian Forces.

3. OPEN HOUSE

On Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Veterans' Affairs Canada North Bay District office, located at the Canada Place, 107 Shirreff Avenue, Room 201, North Bay Ontario from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Public invited to visit the District Office. Refreshment will be

4. CEREMONIAL PUCK DROP

Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the North Bay Memorial Gardens at 7:00 p.m. World War II Veteran, Canadian Veteran who served in the Korean War, and a serving Canadian Force member to participate in puck drop.

The annual Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held at Memorial Gardens at 11am on Sunday.
