Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing was sworn in as the Minister of Revenue by the Lieutenant Governor today, during a swearing-in ceremony at Queen’s Park.

“I am honoured and delighted to be appointed to Cabinet as Minister of Revenue”, said Minister Smith. “I will work hard to deliver more positive change for the people of Ontario as well as for my constituents in Nipissing. The people of Nipissing continue to be my first priority and I look forward to working with them in both capacities.”

The principal functions of the Ministry of Revenue are to administer the province's major tax statutes and tax assistance programs. The tax revenues collected provide the fiscal foundation upon which many of the province's programs are based.

Since her election in 2003, Smith has worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of Nipissing and ensuring the voices of Northern Ontarians are heard at Queen's Park. She has delivered results for Nipissing with the construction start on two hospitals, the building of a new children's treatment centre and the continued four-laning of Highway 11.

A strong, bilingual, Northern advocate, MPP Smith continues to work hard to deliver results for Nipissing, to advocate forcefully on behalf of the North and to be a strong member of the McGuinty Government as it brings positive change to the Province of Ontario.
