Rota named Chair of National Liberal Caucus

OTTAWA – Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota today was chosen by his colleagues to serve as Chair of the National Liberal Caucus.

“It is a great privilege to serve as National Caucus Chair, and I am honoured that my colleagues have trusted me with this role,” said Mr. Rota, who previously served as Ontario Caucus Chair. “I look forward to working with Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion and my caucus colleagues to ensure that as a caucus and as an opposition we work as effectively as possible.”

As National Caucus Chair, Mr. Rota will oversee weekly meetings of the National Liberal Caucus. Furthermore, he will meet regularly with Mr. Dion to provide feedback from Caucus, and offer input on matters of importance.

“I am very pleased with Mr. Rota’s election,” said Mr. Dion. “As Ontario Caucus Chair, Anthony demonstrated an excellent ability to work with his colleagues and bring people together towards a common vision. I trust that he will continue to do so in his new capacity as National Caucus Chair.”

Mr. Rota said he will take on his new responsibilities with enthusiasm and a commitment to Canadians.

“As Liberals we have a responsibility to make Parliament work, and to provide Canadians with a clear alternative to the current government. As National Chair, I will do my part to ensure that as a Caucus we are working together in the best interests of all Canadians,” said Mr. Rota.
