The North Bay and District Hospital's lets run with it Walk/Run event was a success, tripling the inaugural event numbers with 340 event participants and more than $37,000 raised.

NBDH Foundation Board Chair Grant Schultz says this year's event wouldn't have been possible without the support of 28 sponsors and over 60 volunteers. "We are so excited with the community support we've seen this year. Our participation and sponsorship are both way up, and we can feel the momentum in the community is steadily gaining. We're already planning for next year's event!" he said.

Some of this year's new initiatives include the Community Team Challenge where participants earn points to try to win the coveted Silver Bed Pan trophy. This year's winners are RBC Royal Walkers team, with 32 team members, raising $1203. The Hospital also hosted a similar Hospital Team Spirit Challenge for staff. This year's winners are The Cellar Dwellers with 39 team members.

Each participant was awarded an emergency safety whistle at the finish line, and individuals who raised a minimum of $200 dollars in pledges will receive a lets run with it Fitness Kit.

lets run with it is a 2km - 5 km - 10 km Hospital Walk/Run event, aimed to get the community active while raising awareness about local health care needs. The money raised goes to the hospital's Urgent Needs Fund.

Next year's let's run with it event is scheduled for October 19th, 2008.
