GRANT, Derek Gordon Gregory

Posted

In loving memory of Derek Grant, 56 yrs, who died of a heart attack in the early hours of Saturday October 6, 2007. Loving husband and best friend of Geri Grant (née Caruso). Loving father of James Joseph of Sudbury and Gordon Gregory of Surrey B.C. Devoted Grandpa to Daniel, Meagan, Marley and Haley. Dear son of the late Henry and Georgette (née Cayen) Grant. Dear brother of Christine (John Fiske) of Edmonton, Corrine (Mike Barrette) and Jeff (Rose) both of Kirkland Lake and cherished son-in-law of Joseph (predeceased) and Florence Caruso. Derek is also mourned as a best friend and uncle to his hunting buddies Paul and Trevor Caruso. He is lovingly remembered by many brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Derek was born in Englehart, ON and settled in North Bay as a young man. He was a devoted employee at Boart Longyear for 38 years. Derek's love for the outdoors was boundless and hunting was his annual passion. The change of seasons meant adventure for Derek and his family as they looked forward to long summer days and winter weekends at the cottage. He especially cherished these times with his four grandchildren as they brought endless joy to his life. Derek was physically active throughout his life and was a long time member of the North Bay Senior Men's Fastball League. An ardent cyclist, Derek's longest trip was made across Newfoundland. He embraced every new pursuit with passion and commitment. Derek's guitar playing was both a private and shared pursuit at many family gatherings and through song he passed on to his children and grandchildren memories of his mother and father and their passion for music.

The family will receive friends at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd, on Thursday October 11, 2007 from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 pm.
