School Board welcomes new employee

The Near North District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Adamson as acting Supervisory Officer effective October 22, 2007.

The Ministry of Education has allocated specific funds to enable school boards to hire a full-time or part-time supervisory officer, based on enrolment, to guide the capacity building process for Literacy and Numeracy within the board. Ms. Adamson will report to the Director of Education, Heli Vail. Her role will focus on School Improvement Planning through the use of a diagnostic tool that has been developed by the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat.

Ms. Adamson has been an educator for 32 years in the Parry Sound region, as teacher, Vice Principal at William Beatty and Parry Sound High School and Principal of Britt, William Beatty and currently McDougall Schools. She also taught for one year in England. Sue has a Bachelor of Education degree with qualifications in the primary, junior and intermediate divisions, a Master of Education degree in Foundations of Learning and Teaching Behaviour and she completed the Supervisory Officer Qualifications Program in 1994.

Sue enjoys travelling to foreign countries as well as spending time outdoors with her two Bearded Collie dogs.

Ms. Adamson is “eager to work with our senior administration team and Near North schools to assist in building capacity to continually improve the skills of our students in Literacy and Numeracy.”

Susan Adamson will take on this role for the 2007-2008 school year.

Director Heli Vail said, “We will all benefit from Sue’s knowledge, skills and expertise as we move student achievement forward in the Near North District School Board.”
