Smith issues statement about bus strike

Some questions have been raised about the work stoppage at the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission. The work stoppage affects the bus service only.

Today Nipissing Liberal candidate, Monique Smith issued the statement below.

"We are very concerned about the work stoppage and the gap in service to our Northern residents. I have taken the opportunity to speak to both labour and management representatives and have listened to their concerns. I strongly encouraged them both to get back to the bargaining table. I do not want to see the service to our Northern residents affected".

"The work stoppage affects approximately 60 of approximately 850 total employees at the ONTC. The McGuinty Liberals are very proud of the support we have given to the ONTC over the last four years. We took the organization from one that was up for sale with 100's of jobs in jeopardy to one that is seeing unprecedented investments and is thriving. Labour negotiations are part of the day to day operations of any organized workplace and we are hopeful that this latest dispute will be resolved quickly."
