The North Bay - Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) announced the opening of the nomination period for the 36th annual Dorothy Walford Memorial and Ward Smith Environmental Youth Awards today. Residents in the region are invited to nominate individuals or organizations who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to environmental and/or conservation causes within their local community.

"Even the smallest conservation effort can make a big difference to the environment. These awards recognize the contributions and difference people and organizations within our community have made," explains Brian Tayler, General Manager of the North Bay - Mattawa Conservation Authority.

The deadline for nominations is October 15, 2007 with an award ceremony scheduled for late November. All individuals or organizations nominated will receive a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the NBMCA.

Nomination packages are available at the NBMCA and more information can be obtained by calling (705) 474-5420 or on the website at www.nbmca.on.ca

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA's 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organization, the NBMCA works closely with the public to ensure the environmental health of the region's watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
