A dozen firefighters responded to a call Friday night just after 9:30 pm in the 700 block of McIntyre Street East.

North Bay Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 777 McIntyre Street East at 9:42 pm and had the fire inside knocked down at 9:56 pm.

“The tenant smelled smoke and called dispatch,” Chief Fire Prevention Officer Randy Vezina explains.

“The guys arrived on scene at 9:47 pm and could see smoke present; they used thermal imaging and located the fire in a wall in the south west bedroom. They then opened the wall with the Bullit Saw and hit it with the hose.”

Vezina says the owner had been doing renovations to the dwelling and says the primary cause of fire was electrical. Vezina had North Bay Hydro attend the scene and had them pull both electrical panels and then issued a Fire Marshall’s order.

“The power will not be restored until an electrical engineer comes and looks at the work according to Ontario standards.”

“This was a good save and the guys did a great job,” he adds.

There were no injuries reported and the tenant was assisted by VCARS.
