Now that all the school supplies have been bought and the lunches have been made, Ontario kids are back off to school this morning, backpacks and pencil cases in hand. But before parents can cross all of their to-dos off the list, the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) wants Ontario parents to be aware of the importance of early identification of communication disorders in children. Children with communication disorders may struggle with reading, have difficulty socializing with
other children, and may not be able to communicate effectively with parents and teachers.

Much like teachers, Ontario's audiologists and speech language pathologists are regulated professionals who help thousands of children in schools across the province with overcome their communications difficulties and enable them to become effective communicators.

CASLPO is urging parents to learn more about its services and about the critical role that audiologists and speech language pathologists play in helping children to overcome their disabilities and become engaging and academically successful individuals.

"My colleagues and I feel strongly that during the first few years of life, children learn to use language. Once they enter school, they begin to use language to learn", said Jocelyn Kadish, a Toronto-based speech language pathologist who believes that language acquisition is a fundamental building-block in a child's life.
