OPP kept busy Civic holiday weekend

The North Bay OPP Cluster (North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan Detachments) did their part to ensure vehicle drivers and vessel operators complied with traffic and marine laws during this past Civic Long Weekend.

Officers in the cluster targeted Impaired Driving (alcohol/ drugs/ fatigue), Occupant Restraint Use including children, and Intersection Safety for all drivers, riders, and pedestrians. Marine officers targeted Personal Floatation Device (PFD) use and alcohol on our waterways.

The following are this year’s statistics for the Civic Long Weekend (August 3rd to 6th, 2007):

# of Seatbelt Violations: 1
(includes child restraints)

# of Impaired Drivers Charged: 0

# of Speeding Charges: 17

# of Hazardous Moving * Violations *: 1

# of Motor Vehicle Collisions: 6

# of Fatalities: 0

# of Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Collisions:
2 of the 6 (2 persons injured)

# of Wildlife collisions: 0

*(Includes – Intersection Related, Follow Too Closely and Careless Driving type violations).

The North Bay Marine unit did not encounter any boating violations during the long weekend.
