Forest Fire situation report for Wednesday August 1st

HIGHLIGHTS:
• 3 new; 22 active fires
• 313 fires; 7657.7 hectares to date since Apr.1st

DETAILS:

There have been 3 new fires in the last 24 hours; Sudbury 80 a 0.2 hectare fire that was turned over to the Greater Sudbury Fire Department, Sudbury 81 a 0.1 hectare fire that is under control in the French River Provincial Park and North Bay 29 a 0.2 hectare fire that is not yet under control north of the Town of Mattawa. There are currently 19 other active fires. The majority of these active fires are in the far northwest portion of the East Fire Region near Fort Severn and have been caused by lightning. Other active fires are on Manitoulin Island in the Wikwemikong Reserve and in the Parry Sound district.

It will be mainly cloudy with showers across the Hudson Bay area. A mix of sun and cloud to mainly sunny skies will remain over the Lower Great Lakes, central and northeastern Ontario. Temperatures continue to be above seasonal with light to moderate winds becoming moderate to strong to the north.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
