Rachel Domanico (centre) celebrated her 12th birthday with friends by dressing up and attending the Harry Potter book launch.

Wizards invaded the Clarion Pinewood Park Resort Friday night in order to be first to get the final piece of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series.

At midnight the book was unsealed and ready for sale, in the meanwhile, dozens of North Bay children who showed up for the book party were entertained by a number of different activities including fortune telling.

Suzanne Brooks, owner of Gulliver's Quality Books and Toys and event organiser, says there were hundreds of book parties planned across the country and Gulliver’s was happy to be one of them.

“I enjoy the books and we wanted to have the party,” she explains.

“Our customers almost demand it … we’ve done it before and the demand has grown.”
