Four Northern Ontario Angel Investment Groups have been created through the Northern Ontario Enterprise Gateway (NOEG) initiative. NOEG has helped establish groups of savvy business investors into networks or Angel Investor Groups in Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay. How do these deals get off the ground? It’s simply this; NOEG helps business owners get face time with many of the north’s most successful investors to pitch their investment idea. These Angels can potentially invest upwards of $500,000 in high growth businesses ready to expand nationally, internationally or globally.

Noble comments that, “Many businesses in the north are just hearing of the services NOEG provides. Entrepreneurs who have used our services are delighted at how useful our program is in getting them investor ready.

NOEG is the premier agency in Northern Ontario linking northern entrepreneurs with angel investors. They provide education sessions throughout the major northern cities for entrepreneurs and angel investors on the key investment topics. Most importantly, NOEG coaches businesses to become investor ready.

“In phase one of our plan, we were diligent in setting the foundations for these angel groups to develop and establish in each community,” says Noble. “In phase two, NOEG, together with the National Angel Organization, developed seven modules of information for investors and hosted the “Lessons from the Den” four-city tour across the north attended by over 180 entrepreneurs, investors and their advisors.

“This fall, in phase three, we will launch a program to provide business owners with powerful and practical ‘investor readiness’ programs. These programs will be delivered by seasoned investors, entrepreneurs and/or professionals. This assistance will enable the business owner to assess whether or not their opportunity is suitable and ready for angel investment. If it is, we help them prepare and enhance their ability to source the investment they seek. Initial programs will be delivered in Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay,” says Noble.

“There is so much to know about what you need to do in order to attract investor money. These sessions will have managers and owners of high growth businesses traveling in from communities all across Northern Ontario to understand this critical information.” An investment from Fednor has made these business information sessions possible.

Noble states that, “Businesses that best suit angel investment are those that have large international and growth market opportunities that will result in rapid sales growth and who have a skilled management team.”
