Business practices and opportunities, as well as cultural sharing, is on tap at Nipissing University over the next month. The university is pleased to welcome 37 students and two professors from Mexico’s Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Tampico, for an intensive study period, extending from June 26 – July 31, 2007.

A special reception is being held for the students on Wednesday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. in room A246. It will include welcoming remarks from Dennis Mock, Nipissing University president; Genevieve de Bruyn, Nipissing University Student Union president; and Vic Fedeli, Mayor of North Bay.

The ITESM group is at Nipissing to study Business courses as part of a new four-year agreement that was signed in March by Mock and ITESM president, Hector Núñez de Cáceres Lopez. The current agreement renews and expands on the prior one, which has run successfully for three years. New this year, 20 Nipissing University Business students will be studying with the ITESM students and joining in all activities.

The North Bay community is also involved in the ITESM students’ experience with a number of planned activities including two full-day business forums, in which the students will meet with North Bay business leaders to explore local businesses through tours and seminars. It’s a chance for the students to learn about business practices in Canada while sharing insight into Mexican business practices.

On July 21, the ITESM students will be competing in the North Bay Dragon Boat Festival.

Off-campus excursions include a canoe trip in Algonquin Park, and trips to Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls.
