MPP Monique Smith tells Sheena Nesbitt, Co-chair of the North Bay Health Coalition that the North Bay Hospital project remains in public hands.

Members of the North Bay Health Coalition paid a visit to MPP Monique Smith’s Main Street office today to deliver a message that the coalition intends to make alternative financing for hospitals an election issue.

Sheena Nesbitt, co-chair of the North Bay coalition says that the message is not an idol threat and that she came armed with over four-thousand signatures from constituents who do not want to see the Ontario Health System jeopardized or worse the introduction of privatized health care.

“P3 Hospitals have proven to be a disastrous venture time and time again all over the world and it is proving to be no different here in Ontario."

“Any government that’s in power, you need to listen to your voters, this is what we are telling you, every citizen has said that we don’t want this and the government’s going ahead and doing it anyway we just want to be listened to,” states a passionate Nesbitt.

Monique Smith said the coalition is fear mongering and that the local project has always been and remains in public hands.

“We’ve been consistent from the beginning with respect to the North Bay Hospital project that it is publicly owned, publicly governed,” says Smith.

“Yes we are using a different financing model to make sure it gets built. It will be built on time, on budget and it will be maintained over 30 years.”

Smith also said it is an important project for the community and she feels people are genuinely happy to see the project moving forward.
