The Easter Seals Society of Ontario, North Bay & Area District held its Annual General Meeting on Monday at the Empire Living Centre and presented its annual awards.

Guest speaker Angela Johnston and Easter Seals Ambassador Talia Moore presented the awards to those individuals and organizations that have been instrumental in assisting the North Bay chapter with its fundraising efforts and providing support to Easter Seals.

Winners included District Council Chair Marc Baril for the Torch Bearer Award for outstanding support of Easter Seals. Lou Gagne was awarded the Above and Beyond Award for her support of Easter Seals while with the North Bay Skyhawks. The Caring Corporate Award was shared by the Empire Living Center and Cogeco News for their support of Easter Seals and events. The “Ladies in Flight” Ball Hockey team was awarded the Success Shines Bright award for their support of Easter Seals through its involvement in the Power Play for Easter Seals Ball Hockey tournament held annually in September. The Ladies in Flight have been taking part since the tournaments inception in 2000.

Easter Seals assists families of kids with physical disabilities with the purchase of costly equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, braces and communication devices. All money raised in North Bay stays in the community to help the over 60 families who rely on Easter Seals for financial support.
