Foundation raises a million for surgical program

Through generous gifts from our community and the efforts of volunteers over the last two and a half years, the North Bay and District Hospital Foundation now will be able to purchase over one million dollars in surgical equipment for the Hospital.

Chair of the Foundation Board Grant Schultz says the Foundation received strong support from North Bay and area communities and has reached it’s goal of raising one million dollars for the surgical program. “This success comes from generosity of individuals, families, businesses, corporations and service clubs combined with the hard work of many community volunteers,” Schultz says.

The Foundation has already flowed over three hundred thousand dollars to the hospital, and will direct the rest as pledges are honoured over the next few years.

Two new-generation colonoscopes are now ready to fight colorectal cancer, a new ureteroscope, upgraded radiology suites, image-guided surgery equipment for the Ear, Nose and Throat program, and an advanced operating room table are now in use. Soon the community will benefit from a new women’s clinic and an argon plasma coagulator. These are just some of the essential pieces of equipment that the community has come together to purchase, showing that many large and small gifts have a huge impact.

The one million dollars was raised through the mail appeals, the Walk/Run event, major gifts and memorial donations designated for the surgical program.

Following up the success of the fundraising for the surgical program, this fall the Foundation will shift its focus towards the Hospital’s cardiac and stroke diagnostic and emergency care.
