The sidewalks of Main Street were busy with shoppers, browsers and people looking to enjoy the good atmosphere and entertainment Saturday morning as the Summer Stroll descended on North Bay's downtown once again.

This year's festivities saw participation from many local businesses and organizations including TCM Produce, who hosted a 1 pound burger eating contest. Also joining in on the fun where the Warriors of Hope with their quilt raffle to raise money for Cancer research as well as the TD Canada Trust Dragon Boat entry, who held a fundraising, barbecue and car wash in the parking lot of the TD Bank.

DIA Manager Jeff Serran, who obliterated the competition in the burger eating contest, said they always have the stroll the day before Father's Day and they try to tie in a Father's Day event with the celebration. This year was no different as the DIA collaborated with Moose FM to hold an "Ugliest Dad Clothes" contest.

Serran made sure special attention was paid to Ralph Diegel and Friends, who performed in front of Deegan's Shoes all afternoon.

"Ralph has been working in the downtown for 60 years and his business, I think, is North Bay's oldest business. Deegan's Shoes has been here since 1889." Serran said. Diegel will be turning 81 in the fall.

Passersby were entertained further by local musicians young and old, including two classic rock bands, ‘Anchor’ and ‘In Color’. The live music from local entertainers made for the perfect soundtrack to the bustling downtown scene.

"It's truly a community event and everything we do is to open up and give back to the community. From our summer stroll to the big changes that we have with our heritage days, (Summer Stroll) is just going to be a perfect tie in." Serran said before heading off to enjoy the festivities firsthand.
