North Bay hosts 4th Annual Fraud Investigators Conference

The North Bay Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Section are presenting the 4th Annual Northern Ontario Fraud Investigators Partnership Initiative (NOFIPI) Conference from June 12th to 14th at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Inn.

The 2007 NOFIPI conference in North Bay coincides with the City’s 125th Anniversary and a continuing schedule of activities and events throughout this year.

The 2007 conference theme is “Investigation plus Recovery equals Prevention” and include topics on mortgage and loan frauds, credit fraud and identity theft, economic impacts of marihuana grow-operations, home renovation frauds and marketing frauds.

NOFIPI is an ongoing partnership facilitated by the OPP Anti-Rackets Section, Northern Ontario Economic Crime Unit and its municipal police service partners of Northern Ontario. The conference is rotated annually to different cities in Northern Ontario.

Originally borne with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, NOFIPI is a venue to address a need for police, public and private sector agencies to network and strategize in the detection, investigation and prevention of economic crime trends affecting Northern Ontario.

North Bay Police and OPP members reinforce that, “When public and private stakeholders, together in a partnership, are engaged in learning about economic crimes that impact all citizens and businesses of Ontario and beyond, we can better prepare ourselves to combat these criminal elements and help to prevent unscrupulous victimization through awareness. NOFIPI gives us another vehicle toward ensuring the safety and security of people in northern Ontario.”
