Mattawa man charged with stabbing and assault police

Mattawa - Mattawa OPP arrested a Mattawa man after a report of a stabbing in Antoine Park, Mattawan Township last evening (Thursday May 31st, 2007).

At approximately 4:00 p.m. 49 year old David Gray of Mattawa, Ontario, stabbed a 33 year old Mattawa man after a disagreement during a barbeque. Other individuals in the area attempted to disarm Gray of an edged weapon causing Gray to flee to a nearby trailer. The injured male was treated and released at the Mattawa General Hospital after receiving minor cuts on his upper body from a sharp object. Police were contacted and located Gray. Police arrested Gray while he attempted to enter a vehicle on the park grounds. Police learned that the vehicle Gray was entering was reported stolen from central Ontario. At this time, he resisted police action and was subdued after an officer deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon (C.E.W.) commonly known as the “TASER”. Grey was transported to Mattawa OPP detachment. During questioning at the detachment, Grey assaulted a North Bay OPP Crime Unit officer.

Grey is in custody and awaiting a bail hearing to be held at 10:00 a.m. today (Friday June 1st, 2007) at the Ontario Court of Justice, 360 Plouffe Street, North Bay, ON. Grey is facing the following charges:

Assault with a Weapon
Possession of Stolen Property
Assault Police
Two (2) counts of Breach of Probation
