At the May 29, 2007 Regular Board Meeting of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board, Joshua Pride of St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School was appointed as the new student trustee for the 2007-2008 term.

In welcoming Joshua, Board Chair Don Houle commended him on accepting the responsibility of representing the interests of the English Catholic students of Nipissing-Parry Sound.

Joshua has long been an active political and social member of his school communities, previously as President of two elementary schools and currently as the Grade 10 Representative of the Student Administrative Council of SJSH.

“I believe that I handle political situations very effectively and easily…and I will work closely with
both parties (students and the Board),” he said. “…attending Catholic school for my entire academic career has strengthened me morally as well as spiritually…and has greatly contributed to how I handle situations.”

Joshua is known to some in the community as an avid theatrical performer, most recently for earning the Award of Excellence for directing and acting at the Sears District Drama Festival and the Award of Merit at the Sears Regional Drama Festival for his comedic acting role in SJSH’s “The Proposal” by Chekov.

Joshua replaces 2006-2007 student trustee, Samantha Van De Wal, who was also highly involved at SJSH in her role as Treasurer of the Student Administrative Council, tutor for the Literacy Committee and member of the Art Club and God Squad.
