A Christmas Party
**********************************
I’m thinking tonight of a Christmas season.
It was so many years ago.
When some friends and I were celebrating,
Outside the wind was blowing and snow!
It was a couple of days before Christmas,
As we were enjoying this Holiday bash,
Little did anyone think or know,
It would end in a pre-Christmas Holiday crash!
It was later in the evening,
When we decided that we wanted to drive,
To our friends’ house, out in the country
And to keep our Christmas party alive!
Well, we had a real late-night convoy,
There were four cars following the lead.
We were heading for another Christmas party,
As we drove with a little too much speed!
As I was following the car in front,
And my friend followed me in his Ford,
My car slid off the ice-covered road,
And in to the guard-rail fence I soared!
So I crashed my car through the guard rails,
And it fell upside down, in the stream,
The accident happened so quickly,
I didn’t even have time to scream!
So there I was, trapped upside down,
In the dark with cold water pouring in,
Suddenly a strange calm came over me,
As I thought of how foolish I’d been!
So I groped around in the darkness,
To find something to break the door glass,
And to try and get out of that watery grave,
I needed to find something fast!
My hands fell on to my bumper jack,
Which had been on the floor in the back,
As I struck the window as hard as I could,
It shattered in the cold and pitch-black!
Well, I crawled through the window opening,
And up onto the roadside bank,
I’m sure that I looked like a soaking wet rat,
As I escaped from that station wagon tank!
My friend thought I had drowned for sure,
And was about to drive away, to get help,
When he spotted me climbing up that frozen bank,
Like a dog that could no longer yelp!
So he gave me a ride to my house,
Where I changed in to some clothes that were dry,
We then returned to the accident scene,
But the police had already arrived!
The policeman didn’t quite believe me,
When I told him I had driven the car,
Especially since I had dry clothes on,
It all seemed to be quite bizarre!
A guardian Angel was watching over me that night,
In that water so cold and so black,
The only thing that could break out that window,
Was my good old trusty bumper jack!
So the reason I’m telling this story,
As we celebrate our festivities and fun,
Is to drive carefully during the holidays,
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, everyone!
