Two charged with impaired driving offences

These charges mark 60 drivers charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the North Bay Detachment area in 2019

NORTH BAY, — On Dec. 6, 2019, at approximately 11 p.m., officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a domestic dispute in the Town of Mattawa, where one person left in a vehicle.   

Officers located the vehicle in the City of North Bay and found the driver to be impaired.   

The driver was arrested at the scene and brought to the North Bay OPP for testing.   

As a result of the police investigation, a 36 year old from Mattawa, was charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Assault - Spousal
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent

 The accused was released on a Recognizance of Bail and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 17, 2019, in the City of North Bay.   

The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS),

CALVIN TWP — On Dec. 7, 2019, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in Bonfield. As police were on route to the call, the vehicle crashed into guard rails in Calvin Township.   

The driver was not injured in the collision. The driver was arrested at scene for impaired by drug and brought to North Bay Police Service for further tests by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.   

A search of the vehicle incident to arrest turned up a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a large machete.  

As a result of the police investigation, Andy Meloche, age 23, of Hamilton, was charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Drugs,
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine and
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. 

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Jan. 14, 2020.   

The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

These charges mark 60 drivers charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the North Bay Detachment area in 2019. In 2018, North Bay OPP charged 49 drivers.
