Sundridge man barricades himself inside house, then sets it ablaze

'Police entered the residence and located the person with a knife in hand'

A Sundridge man faces arson charges after an unusual fire in that town early this morning.

Shortly after midnight police responded to a call of a house fire on John Street.

"Investigation revealed that a person lit their residence on fire and barricaded themselves inside," said  Constable Melissa Thomas. "Out of concern for their safety, police entered the residence and located the person with a knife in hand."

The person was arrested safely by officers and taken to hospital for assessment.

Sean Nolan, 57, is charged with:

  • Arson - disregard for human life
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Arson - damage to property
  • Assault
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest

Nolan was remanded into custody and awaits a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Parry Sound.

Almaguin Highlands OPP along with Parry Sound District Paramedic Service and the Sundridge Fire Department responded to the call.
