Powassan's outdoor swimming pool needs repairs.

The Powassan Lions’ Club will kickstart the Powassan Pool Fundraising Initiative with a live concert and dance by 'The Blackbirds' under black lights at the SportsPlex on Saturday, May 25.

"The outdoor pool is an integral component of Powassan’s summer programming, and repairs are required to keep this amenity functioning for the town," says a news release. "The Lions’ Club helped raise the funds to build the pool decades ago and are focusing on getting the pool operational for the summer."

It appears the largest single cost to ensure the pool can open for the 2024 season is carrying out work on the pool floor and its deck. Estimates vary widely from $100,000 to $500,000.

The amount includes the cost of repairing pipes under the pool floor.

Staff says fixing the pool and deck is the main priority to meet the requirements of the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit which identified issues with the pool earlier this year.

The pool also needs a new commercial filtration system which is estimated to cost $10,000.

Area musicians Bernard Penney, Kevin Hoffman, Barry Clout, and Marc Tessier (The Blackbirds) will perform live at the Curling Club on the evening of Saturday May 25—delivering a classic rock repertoire under a black light environment.  Attendees are encouraged to wear white and be part of the fun event—glowing in the darkened venue.

All proceeds will fund the Powassan outdoor pool.
