Illegal plates tip cops. Local woman faces numerous serious charges

A 32-year-old North Bay woman is charged with several drug and Highway Traffic Act-related offences after a traffic stop on Second Avenue early this morning.

It was 3 a.m. when an alert patrol officer saw a vehicle parked at a residence with unauthorized plates on it.

When a woman was seen driving it away, she was stopped. While speaking to the driver, the officer saw drugs in the vehicle and she was arrested. She was searched and additional drugs were discovered.

As a result of police searches, the following was seized:

  • 22.9 grams of cocaine,
  • 5.7 grams of Fentanyl,
  • 13.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine,
  • 53 - 5mg Percocet pills,
  • 51 methamphetamine pills,
  • $465 in cash
  • Digital Scales

The total value of the cash and drugs seized is approximately $6,000.

Kaitlyne Commanda, 32, is charged with;

  • Five counts of Possession for the purpose of trafficking,
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000,
  • Two counts of failing to comply with probation,
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Use plates not authorized for the vehicle
  • Drive a motor vehicle with no currently validated permit
  • Drive a motor vehicle with no insurance

Commanda was held in custody for a bail hearing.
